ARTIST BIO

Anna Elise Johnson is a Los Angeles-based artist who was born in Starnberg, Germany and grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She received her MFA from the University of Chicago (2012) and her BFA from Washington University in St. Louis with a major in painting and a minor in art history (2005). After completing her BFA, Johnson worked in Baltimore and Denver in the arts and as an assistant to her father, who is also an artist. Afterwards she lived in Berlin, Germany for years and worked as an artist assistant for Julie Mehretu. After completing her MFA, Anna Elise was a fellow at the Core Program in Houston, TX. She has exhibited her work in numerous exhibitions across the United States as well as internationally in Germany, England, Delhi, Italy, and Slovenia. Select group exhibitions include shows at the Logan Center, Chicago; Maple Street Constructs, Los Angeles; Torrance Museum of Art, Los Angeles; CADD SPACE, Dallas; Ochi Gallery, Ketchum, ID; Space Gallery, Denver; Weinberg/ Newton Gallery, Chicago; and Gallery SKE, New Delhi. Solo exhibitions include The Mission Projects, Chicago; Cris Worley Fine Art, Dallas; Off1c1na, Rome, Italy; GAR Gallery, Galveston, TX; Blaffer Art Museum, Windows into Houston, Houston, TX; Windows on Main, Houston, TX; and Lage Egal, Berlin, Germany.
