ARTIST BIO

Cathy Akers is a Los Angeles-based artist who works with ceramics, photography and installation. She received her MFA from CalArts and her BFA from Tufts University in affiliation with The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. During the past 15 years, she has explored the utopian impulse in her work, with a particular focus on the communal movement of the 1960s. Her work has been exhibited in solo or two-person shows at Pitzer College, Honor Fraser Gallery, Emma Gray Headquarters, the Manual Archives and Elephant Gallery in Los Angeles, as well as group shows in Israel, Germany, the U.K., Poland, and the Czech Republic. She has been awarded grants from the Durfee Foundation, the Sustainable Arts Foundation, and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
