ARTIST BIO

Jessica Simmons-Reid (BA, Brown University; MFA, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago) is an artist and writer based in Los Angeles and Joshua Tree, CA. Her work, which spans drawing, printmaking, photography, writing, and art criticism, explores the interstitial space between the language of abstraction and the abstraction of language. Exhibitions include: Ladies Room, Los Angeles (2021); Tin Flats, Los Angeles (2018); Central Park, Los Angeles (2018); the Material Art Fair in Mexico City with Grice Bench, Los Angeles (2017); and Fundación 'ace para el Arte Contemporáneo, Buenos Aires, Argentina (solo), where she was an international artist-in-residence (2014); among others. Her work is held in numerous private collections in New York, Los Angeles, and London. She has contributed writing to Artforum, Artsy, and Contemporary Art Review Los Angeles (CARLA), where she regularly publishes essays and reviews.
