ARTIST BIO

Julie Lequin (Born in Laval, Quebec in 1979) is a French-Canadian artist. She received a BFA from Concordia University (Montreal, PQ) in 2001 and an MFA from Art Center College of Design (Pasadena, CA) in 2005. Her work is multidisciplinary and DIY; it includes video art, sculpture, watercolor, writing, props and costumes, as well as written lists, voiceovers and notes for scripts.

Since 2006 Lequin’s work was exhibited locally in Montreal at Clark, Optica, La Centrale, Maison des Arts de Laval and YYZ Artists’ Outlet (Toronto, Ontario); and internationally at the Crisp-Ellert Art Museum (St-Augustine, Florida), Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (Salt Lake City, Utah), Art in General (NYC, NY), Galerie Brodac (Sarajevo, Bosnie), Maus Hàbitos (Porto, Portugal), Incheon Biennale (South Korea), etc.

Julie Lequin’s projects were reviewed/ mentioned in Le Devoir, The New Yorker Magazine, La Presse+, Thrasher Magazine, Art Papers, Art21, Esse, C Magazine, Artillery Magazine, Etc-revue de l’art actuel and Radio-Canada/CBC.

Lequin was also awarded fellowships from the Canada Council for the Arts, SODEC and the California Community Foundation. She was an artist in residency at Yaddo, Art Omi, Macdowell Colony, Quebec’s studio in Mexico City, Cow House Studios in Ireland, HIAP Helsinki, Nordiska Akvarellmuseet in Sweden and Les Récollets in Paris.

She lives and works in Quebec.
