ARTIST BIO

Beatriz Monteavaro is a Miami-based artist and musician from Cuba whose work exists within the realms of monsters movies, science fiction, fantasy, theme parks, and underground music scenes. Her recent work is a meditation on memory, time travel, lost histories, and long walks on the beach.

Monteavaro received a BFA from Tyler School of Art of Temple University. Her work has been exhibited in venues such as Annina Nosei Gallery, New York (2005); Miami Art Museum, Miami (2010); Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (2015, 2005, 2000); NFA Space, Chicago (2001); The National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington D.C (2005); Tent, Rotterdam (2003); Galerie Edward Mitterrand, Geneva (2002); Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, Paris (2005); The Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum at FIU, Miami (2016), among others. She has had solo exhibitions at Las Cienegas Projects, Los Angeles (2010); Derek Eller Gallery, NYC (2006); Galerie Sultana, Paris (2011, 2009); The Bob Rauschenberg Gallery at FSW, Fort Myers, FL (2020); Locust Projects, Miami (2015, 2003); Fredric Snitzer Gallery, Miami (2008, 2005); Emerson Dorsch Gallery, Miami (2014); The University Galleries at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton (2011), The Gulf Coast Museum of Art in Largo, FL (2004); and CUNSTHAUS, Tampa, FL (2018). Her work has been reviewed and featured in Flash Art, ArtUS, ArtNews and Art Papers. Additionally, Monteavaro plays drums and is one half of the band Holly Hunt and one quarter of the band SAAVIK. She has a solo sound project called Ellen Ripley.
