ARTIST BIO

A long time Los Angeles resident and naturalist, Fox’s work grows out observing the natural world through an urban lens. In her work, nature becomes a stylized romantic myth of life, pure and untouched with hyper close up views of details like flower stamen or seed pods. These are illustrated with fine detail in pencil and paint in Fox’s paintings, drawings and large scale site specific public murals. Idealized animals or figures appear in the works too, as characters playing out stories that resemble fairytales and myths. In creating her fictional visions of nature, fox reveals sober truths about its use and destruction for the benefit of society.

Fox earned her BFA at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles (02). She has completed 8 public murals since 2014 including two recent installations at LAX International airport. Group exhibitions include Bloom at MOAH (2012), LA Wood curated by China Adams, Arena 1 Gallery, CA (2014), Inside the Quad, curated by Meg Linton, Ben Maltz Gallery, CA (2014) and The Night opens / La Nuit s'ouvre, BLAM Projects Los Angeles, CA (2017). Solo exhibitions include Songs of Freedom: Renée A Fox + Write Girl (2019), Corruption of Faustus, Otis College of Art and Design, CA (2017), Eve, Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH), CA (2013), and Renée A. Fox: A Decadent Work, West LA College Gallery, CA (2013). Her mural Eve is part of the permanent collection at MOAH and her work is in numerous private collections.
