ARTIST BIO

Christina Shurts investigates allegories found within myth and hidden histories. She uses art to examine and uncover new ways of understanding the stories we have been told. She uses this as her part in uncovering and highlighting lost beauties & betrayals within human culture.

Shurts has shown work nationally and internationally at galleries and museums. Highlight exhibitions include Galleri Oxholm, Copenhagen, DK, Saatchi Gallery, London, UK, the U.S. Embassy, Australia, Rare Gallery, NY, and the Torrance Art Museum. Residencies include The Collective, Barcelona Spain, and FORUM 2019, Torrance Art Museum. Honors include Lighthouse Award for Art Education and Distinction In Creative Activity, 2010, CSULB. Shurts earned her M.F.A., in 2010, from California State University Long Beach and her B.A., in 2001 on an athletic scholarship from UC Irvine. She currently resides near the cliffs of Palos Verdes with her family. Shurts serves as adjunct Faculty at Mount San Antonio College.
